Why do people have to follow trends?

Makes me laugh when people have to follow with colour schemes , styles etc of new furniture and decorating
Why not just have what you like whether it be "in " or not , as long as it looks good to yourself and you like it ?

such as the likes of BQ, ie, the same wallpaper /colour paint etc, instead of finding an indepedant trader thats not run of the mill, why not mix old with new, that works sometimes, this is one of the drawbacks of big companies like BQ / dfs etc having the market to themselfs

Yep, but on occasion I have wanted to buy wallpaper in a certain colour, only to find that because it's not fashionable at the moment you can't find it anywhere, so what are you meant to do in that situation? You either don't decorate until the colour you want is back in fashion, or alter your plans.
We're told what we can buy. Anyone tried to get dark green gift-tags or Christmas present tags in the last year or two to go with the dark green ribbon they still sell? Or dark green bedlinen, or bathroom towels? Their total lack of availability doesn't seem to have anything to do with trends. Is dark green a colour that upsets somebody, or what?
