searching / unknown song / singer.

Hi all,
can anyone help with this, although it is a long shot.
it is a song from the early 70s, all i know is this line " SMILING, IVE COME A LONG WAY TO SEE YOU
SMILING, YOU ARE NOT LAUGHING ?

those words - or at least something pretty close - appear in a song called "you're not smiling" by the audience, from their 1971 album "house on the hill".
