CRB checks for music tutors

Is it still the case that private music teachers are not required to be CRB checked. I have been Crb checked for my work in a school but I also teach privately in my home which is situated in a different local authority to the school.I was told you cannot apply to checked as an individual. I am looking into this as a result of reading about parents taking other people's children to school and job share people caring for each other's children etc. I fully agree with taking every absolute precaution but legally what's the score for private instrumental teachers?

Whilst you work at a school, you are also self employed in that you privately teach. You do not need to have a criminal records check to be self employed. I'm pretty sure this is correct.

Just like if you were to start your own business then you would not need to have a CRB check done. Thinking about this, it does seem odd as you will be having close contact with people and possibly vulnerable people.

If you were to join a company of teachers for private teaching, then it would be a requirement to have a CRB check.

You need to pass a special exam to teach a pupil how to play a musiical instrument don't you? I'm not sure. Being an ex-piano learner myself, I remeber the teacher having a certificate on her wall. To get this certificate, maybe you have to have a CRB check done.

You need to have clearance from the Independent Safeguarding Authority as well as a CRB clearance. Your private work is self employment and that will not prevent uyou from having proper clearance.
