solar batteries for watches

I know rechargeable batteries eventually need replacing but is it the same for solar batteries for watches. Do they similary need replacing eventually or do they last for ever so to speak. If so on average how long do they last ?

My Seiko winds itself and powers a tiny generator feeding the battery.

But landie, is your battery infinitely rechargeable?

Most self winding watches are mechanical with a bob weight being moved by the wearer's motion which winds a spring which powers the escape mechanism.

I would say yes 'cos at the end of the day you're using a battery and none of them lasts for ever.  I've got a Seiko watch which I've had for 24 years and it's on its 3rd battery. They do last a long time but not for ever.......

Thanks Tim Baxter what you say makes sense. It's probably worth paying that little bit extra then for a solar battery watch.

The Seiko kinetic uses a capacitor (which functio
just like a battery and stores the electric energy
generated by the kinetic motion. If you googled the
net, you'll find that this capacitor will eventually fail and
needs to be replaced.
