It may surprise you!
Very sound advice from these two. We bought a new bed some years ago and the shop was extremely patient while we lazed around on their many beds and very helpful with advice on firmness, etc.
Decide what kind of base you want (divan or slatted) and size. Then go on to what type of mattress you prefer. We actually opted for two 2' 6" mattresses for our 5' kingsize base. Much easier to turn (should be done regularly) and a darn sight easier to get up the stairs in the first place! Also gives you the opportunity to have a different level of firmness for a partner (if you have one). We went for Slumberland mattresses in the end, but on a completely different make of base.
Go to a reputable shop and if they get touchy, try another one - it's worth the time and effort to get a decent night's sleep. Spend as much as you can comfortably afford - you spend a fair amount of time in bed so it pays to get it right for you.
