The cost of rental cars... (uk)
I was about to rent a car for a trip home to the UK. Within the space of two days there was a hike of 220 Euros on the price. Now, its a private a company, I suppose they can do what they want but can somebody tell me how such a hike can be justified. Does availability really force up prices THAT much. If you ring these people and ask them to have a heart, any chance the prices will be brought down somewhat. I really feel opposed to paying such a hiked-up price and would love to hear from those who had a similar experience and perhaps got around it, or has a suggestion for cheap car rentals...

Politely protested that increase prices subject to availability was fine but that the hike in this instance was pretty darn steep. Well, no harm in trying.
Thanks both for your answers. dzug- unfortunately the site I chose was the cheapest from a huge selection on a couple of comparison sites (though still far too steep!! :) )
SJP- Looking into ur tip and hoping I can reduce the cost a bit.
Thanks both!
