Oyster cards

The country bumkin is going to London for a few days.
Landing at King's Cross on Tuesday, staying in Tooting, and visiting the Dome or O2 or whatever it is called on Wed/Thurs, and returning to sunny (ha!) Scotland on Friday.
Should I get an Oyster card - will it work out cheaper/easier than buying tube tickets.?

It will be cheaper and easier than buying daily tickets - by at least 50p a day.

Definitely cheaper! Tube tickets without Oyster are a massive tourist tax. Single tube journey is £4 for cash, or £2.70 (peak) or £2.20 (off-peak) Oyster.

You can add money, or put auto top-up on where you can tell it to add £5 say when you go below £5. It will then automatically top-up on tubes/buses etc. and never run out.

Also, if you do many journeys in a day, it automatically becomes the appropriate travelcard. Can also surrneder it and get your £3 back should you wish.

I bought all day tickets when I went in May. you prob want a zone 1 and 2 card @ £5.60 off peak each day.

Tooting is in zone 4, so zones 1/2 is no good to you.

With an Oyster you won't be able to use the Southern/FCC service from Tooting into London - you'll either need to use the tube (Tooting Broadway/Bec) with Oyster or buy paper travelcards.

thanks all - the friend I was staying with had a spare one and wow does it help to reduce the fares!
Will buy one for myself next time.
It even works on the river - I took the cat to the O2.
