Can anyone tell me how to read wind speeds, what would be a high wind. Thinking of going away for a winter hol, but beleive resort i have chosen can be windy. Cant make head nor tale of the weather charts. What kilometre ph would be classed as "windy" ?
There is an article about the Beaufort scale at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beaufort_scale which gives the wind speeds and descriptions in kph among other measurements. It should give you an idea what to expect
Huderon, - thanks for that just had a quick look, great info. wind speesd now dont look as bad as I imagined. Now just got to try and understand north easterly etc etc.
Wind direction is the direction it is blowing in, not from. So if you are on the south coast facing the sea and the wind is north easterly, it's coming in from the sea from south west. If that makes any sense :-)
Wind direction is given from where it originates. A North Westerly blows from the North West i.e. when you face into the wind you would be facing North West.
Thank you all for the replies, just read through some stuff, just learnt that ly =from (as in easterly)
and ward = toward ( as in eastward ) thats the way I like to learn !!
