Hz and KHz - What is this all about?

On my new TV the sound needs adjusting. But when I go into the settings to do it, it shows a list of the following
120 Hz
200Hz
500Hz
1.2KHz
3KHz
7.5KHz
12KHz

I understand settings like bass, treble, etc, but the list above means nothing to me!
The TV sounds "tinny" and I want adjust it. Can anyone explain what to do in baby speak please?

these are your bass and treble controls. Just more of them to give you more control over your preferred sound.
120 hz is the base end of the scale up through mid ranges to the high (treble) end at 12Khz. To start set all the scales at their mid point and then experiment by raising or lowering each of the settings. For instance if voices are getting lost in the background raise the 3khz control a little. Voice is mainly in this frequency. If you want more base then raise the 120 and 200 hz controls. If your tv sounds tinny it suggests the high frequencies have been raised. See what it sounds like when you start with all in the middle as I suggested before
