Combi boiler cooling fan?
3 Answers
My combi boiler is playing up!...When I turn the hot running water of it all shuts down and the cooling fan kicks in, it turns off after about 2 minutes as normal but then the fan re-starts, turns off then re-starts 3 to 4 times before it all goes off completely.
The fan is 1 year old as the other one had bearing trouble and had to be changed.
Does this mean there is something wrong with my boiler?

The fan is not a cooling fan, but an exhaust fan, which pulls the air through the boiler system (expelling the burnt gases from the boiler). This suggests you have a fault on the control board. A replacement will cost at least £100 plus the engineer call out charge.
The fan will be rated at around 80 Watts, costing around 1 penny per hour of continuous operation.
Therefore if everything else with the boiler seems fine, I would ignore the fact that the fan operates at times it should not, knowing it is only costing me 1 penny an hour.
