/// Henry Shelford, chief executive of School Stickers, the company behind the research, said: ' Obviously young people are all unique and just because a child's called Megan or Rory does not necessarily mean they're going to be little terrors.///
Where do these people come from, why bother to do the research, if in the end it doesn't mean a thing?

My middle child is called Rebecca and I can honestly say she was a nightmare (middle child syndrome?) both at school and at home.Thankfully she settled down and is now a hardworking mum of two beautiful sons.
I've never heard of this daft sticker scheme mantioned in the article.
I can tell you that one of the most annoying and bullying little girls i've ever met was called Megan, she is still the same way now even at age 20.I also knew a Brandon and a Callum who were holy terrors,Brandon was in a Young Offenders Institute at age 15 for violent offences.
Names are completely irrelevant when it comes to good or bad behaviour.

Actually there have been much more in depth studies about this and if you are interested read the book 'Freakonomics' but I will summarise below.
This is obviously not true accross the board but if you take the macro view of the data:
Parents who have a poor education, low income, and live in bad areas tend towards certain names for their children. Children who come from deprived backgrounds tend to do worse at, and cause more trouble at, school. End of story.
An interesting aside is that the names that higher social classes tend to give to their children, and also names of current big celebrities, tend to migrate to the lower classes over a few years.

Just read that above and would just like to clarify that all social classes have certain names that at any point in time are more popular for that social class. Not just lower classes.
And I know it is probably old fashioned to talk about social class but please take it to be an indicator of level income, education and neighbourhood.

Well in that case the study is a load of *** :) Dot - not aimed at you OK?
I named my daughter 21yrs ago and it was an old fashioned name and now its become more popular. We as a family have always been hard working high achievers all the way down the line.I dont like the Social Class term.
Some bloody snobby answers here -i would so love to have a social interaction with you all.It would be so much fun and right up my street This isnt the place to air my views on the class division but cc1 you must be so proud of your witty retort:)
Again -the names are given my the parents so if the child happens to be brilliant then its not down to his/her name as they didnt chose it.
Lot of tosh anyway as my sons name is never ever mentioned in any lists and its not a made up one lol.

There are lots of terms that can be used to describe a section of society and there are lots of ways to gather and use the information.
Although most people can be swayed by media and hype a great deal of people make oppinions based on what they have seen, heard and experienced.
Therefore, for me, the people that are able to say 'from my experience' whether it is about haircuts, names or economic backgrounds hold more sway than those that say the information shouldn't be used in the way it is (if that makes sence?) Experience outweighs opinion.
Someone using the 'snobby answers' quote is as stuck in the class system as the supposed snob!!!
