On second thoughts it cannot be 'prune' because there is no 'prune tree'

The answer is DOCK

Thanks a million gen2. I had thought of the elusive pimpernel but did not realise that a pimpernel was a flower.
I am certain that DOCK is the correct answer and agree that prune is not right. The Thesaurus does not give "dock" as a synonym of "cut off" - I wonder why not? It should be added!
