where's the compassion?

After reading the question about Pete Doherty, I found my self contemplating all of the responses and I felt that we, as a society, lack compassion and understanding for other individuals! The reason that Pete happens to be in the press so much is because he is beeing used to sell; to generate����. By appearing in mags, newspapers and on T.V, he makes money. he was also used by Bob Geldoff, but for good rather than evil. Anyway, this rant is not just about Pete, it's about why we seldom show compassion for individuals who obviously need it. Any comments?

I don't know what the question actually was in the other post, but the reason I don't feel compassionate towards Pete Doherty is because any problems he's had (that have been in the public eye anyway) have been his own fault.  No one is forced to do drugs and become a junky, that was his choice.  He got kicked out his band, broke into his ex-bandmates flat, constantly fails to show up for BabyShambles gigs..the list goes on.

As for other instances, I disagree with you, I think as a whole the UK is a very sympathetic nation when it comes to the stories that matter.  The London Bombings, missing persons, natural disasters, senseless death...these sorts of things.  Every year the public raises an amazing amount for chariety both at home and abroad.  Maybe you're being too harsh on us all?

I didn't read the previous question either and I do agree with Morrisonker in parts that as a nation we are very compassionate, however I don't think it's fair to say that everything in his (PD's) life is Pete Doherty's fault.  Yes, he did/ does take drugs, but I don't think it's as simple as waking up one morning and deciding to become a junkie.  I think PD is naive, I don't think he realises that people are using him and want him to fail to make more money from him.

I just wanted to appologise to Morrisonker, and anyone else, if my question/ remarks have caused upset, it was unintentional.
I understand that people are very sympathetic when it comes to the things mentioned in Morrisonker's reply. However, I was mearly making a point that It is all to easy to look at people, who are in the public eye, and make judgements about their conduct/lifestyles. We,the public, place celebs on pedestals and it becomes all to easy to forget that these people are just human beings, who have the same kind of problems that we, the regular folks, also have. And they suffer the same as us.
Is it right to kick a person when they are down, or do we show compassion when they quite obviously need it ?
