Ford Focus Dashboard Display
I have a 2002 Ford Focus & this morning i started my car to find that some items on the dashboard are not working (petrol gauge, milometer, rev counter & oil temparature).
The rest of the car is working fine, so what is probably the cause?

i had this some time ago on a 54 plate focus , dials were all dead, took it in to ford garage , they said instrument cluster , its really common, search ask jeeves or google , loads of them , anyway after much forcefull debate they fit one for cost as a goodwill jesture so haggle with them , they have manufactured a poorly designed part as well they know..... best of...

a number of possabilites show themselves for this problem ,
Fusses whcih has already been answer 'd
secondly check for bad earth connections " usualy the engine management light will come on for this.
third and fourth answer would involve a check via the on board computer " known as the ECU unit "
sometimes during breakdown of teh ECU the dashboard will start to fail on some items until total failor " usualy with the engine warning light flashin/ staying on perminently " however with this you " may " find the engine starts to cut out and wont run.
Alternatively the instrument panel on a Ford Focus is controlled through the ECU and all the display is electronic , if the ECU is found to be fine the actual Display unit on the dashboard could be failing , " some of these are swoppable " plug and play so to speak " some will need to be reset to work with the ECU .
" sadly both the second answers are not going to be cheep repairs " for instance a new instrument panel for ford focus is around £600 new ... though second hand units can be got cheeper " i reciently replaced my dash with second hand unit and got one for £40 luckily for me mine was plug and play "
ford garages will charge you for checking the ECU " approx £50 to £75 " as they have to use a specialy adapted computer to link to the car " these units cost in excess of £10.000 hence the charge.
hope this helps
