Laptop screen malfunctioning

Our laptops screen keeps turning a greyish/black colour and we have to keep moving the screen up and down and shaking it to get it back to normal colour. It seems like something to do with the connection.
The computer itself works fine but the screen needs replacing! Is this a case of buying a new laptop or can the screen be replaced? If so, is this expensive?

Welcome to the club. Mine is the same. I just move it to different positions until I find one that works.

I won't consider dismantling it until it refuses to light up but take this advice - backup any important data before the screen goes entirely, or you won't be able to see what you are doing.
