Kitchen Electrics- a right bodge job?
I recently had a new kitchen installed and realised that I had no power point for the cooker hood. We had a electrician in last week, but I think what he has done might be illegal and dangerous.
On the kitchen wall we have a combi boiler plugged into a standard socket on the wall. I was expecting the electrician to cut a long hole in the wall and run a new cable from behind the existing boiler socket to the new socket he has installed at the top of the wall which will be where the cooker hood will be plugged in. This long hole could then be plastered over.
What the electrician has actually done is take the power cable from the boiler and connect the cable from the new cooker hood socket so that the new socket gets it power from the actual power cable from the boiler, not the main cable behind the boiler socket. He then cut a small groove into the wall next to the boiler socket, buried the boiler cable and filled the hole. So now I have the power cable from the boiler buried into the wall and then the same cable coming out of the wall next to the boiler socket, with the boiler plug on the end. The cable for the new cooker hood socket has then simply been hung over the top of the boiler and then again buried into the wall up near where the new socket is fitted.
Surely this cannot be right.It looks ridiculous as well.
I have not paid the electrician yet and intend to get this rectified, but I am worried about the legality and safety of what he has done.And advice is most appreciated.

As described this work would not comply with regs.If by some remote chance you do get a cert saying all is ok then contact the certifiing body i.e NICEIC...NAPIT....or ELECSA. ask someone to check it out.{its free}.
