hair going dark when wet/ not when underwater

After looking at a picture of me scubadiving, i've just realised that my hair was the same colour as it is when it is dry, but it goes a lot darker when it is wet and I am in the air. Why is this?

wouldn't sunlight make the hair light and lack of it darker, which is the oposite of what is happening?

When your hair is wet above water it's matted down, and therefore it'd be absorbing more of the light. When underwater it's all flowy and reflecting the light it should
