If you are using outlook, go to 'help' and type in your question - it's the best way to find out what you want.
if you've been retired for about 6 years it's probably a little late for an out of office message, reckon most people will have realised you no longer in the office after 6 years! :)

Anyhow, if you are using outlook then "out of office" can only be used in a corporate exchange based environment, not in a home based setup

If you are using some other way to read your mails then we need to know what that is before anyone can help you.
In Outlook Express, go to 'tools', 'Message rules', 'Mail' and click on 'New'. Scroll down in the first box to 'for all messages' and check the box. Then, in the second box, go to 'reply with this message'. In the third box, click on the blue 'message' word. This will allow you to go elsewhere on your computer to find the relevant message.
thanks Chuck I wondered why I couldn't find it....I have been retired 4 years but wanted to put this up for when I was on holiday......
worth pointing out that for Tefler's answer to work you will need to keep your computer turned on and with outlook open, and have it set to automatically check for messages.

also the problem with any out of office message is it doesn't know the difference between a genuine email and spam so it will automatically send an out of office reply to all spam emails, this will just confirm that your email is a real one to the spammers so you'll start getting more spam.
