Hi Guys, I had a cholesterol test today, about an hour after quite a big meal, and the reading was 2.75. The nurse asked to do it again as she thought the machine might be wrong, and the second reading was 2.77. She told me that this was unusually low for someone my age (27), but told me not to worry about it and just get it checked again in 6 months to make sure its not getting lower.
Obviously, I am a bit concerned about it, and wondered if anyone knew how to actually higher your cholesterol level safely please? I eat a very balanced diet, and dont live on veg, soya and fruit, although they do play a part in my diet, along with all types of meat, carbohydrates and I have a good love of cheese*blush*. I am really intrigued as she seemed a bit concerned that my level was so low, and said that a Doctor wouldnt really be bothered by it as it wasn't a high reading - anyone got any ideas please? For what it's worth, I "think" they consider anything above 7.0 to be too high.
Many years ago, mine used to be 6.7 but, with suitable diet (no fry-ups) and medication, came down to 5.5 which they considered to be at the "OK" level. A couple of years ago they lowered the goalposts and now say that 4.5 is an acceptable level.
Thanks for your answers guys. I'll definately make an appointment with a Doc and see whats going on. My Mums got a thyroid issue, and I get blood tests regularly to see if I'm in the same boat, as I have a real nightmare trying to lose weight, as does she, so I wonder if that could be the problem?!
