KM Links Game - December week 3

Good morning everyone - well I hope you've all got your thinking caps on this morning because I don't have the faintest idea what we're supposed to do with the crossword with which Kate has presented us, so I've automatically put on my dunce's cap !!!
Before going any further - I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, a safe holiday period and all the best for the coming Year. Thank you all for your friendly comments, banter and slightly bizarre suggestions throughout this past year, I've enjoyed every minute of it.
Now - what do we do with these "links" which are -
CRICKET ON THE HEARTH
THE CHIMES
THE BATTLE OF LIFE
A CHRISTMAS CAROL
At the top of the page, Kate tells us that Dickens and Christmas go together like Morecambe and Wise - whether this is to lead or mislead, I have no idea, but she finishes by wishing us a Happy Christmas -
As usual, all are welcome to join in, the show closes at midnight Sunday, results later Monday and word lengths are not a problem, what else is there to say but GOOD LUCK !!! S

Cricket on the Hearth - EDWARD PLUMMER
The Chimes - ALDERMAN CUTE
The Battle of Life - ALFRED HEATHFIELD
A Christmas Carol - THE GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PAST
Good luck everyone, and may you all have a very joyous Christmas

After much deliberation and cogitation I am submitting following:
The Battle of Life - Dr Anthony Jedder
Cricket on the Hearth - John Peerybingle
The Chimes - Toby (Trotty) Veck
A Christmas Carol - Ebenezer Scrooge.
A very merry christmas to everyone who uses answerbank and enters KM Links. Snow and freezing cold in Co Durham

Good evening, glad to sit down at last and do the crossword. I agree with the Christmas / Morecambe & Wise sentiment - who could forget the 'breakfast' routine done to 'The Stripper'?? But Dickens ??...I'm more of a Thomas Hardy / 'Lark Rise to Candleford' person....or to come up to date, Harry Potter, but don't tell anyone!
So, wild guesses are:
Cricket on the Hearth - John Peerybingle
The Chimes - Alderman Cute
The Battle of Life - Clemency Newcome
A Christmas Carol - Mr Fezziwig
Merry Christmas and Good Health & Happiness for next year
