british gas meters

british gas want to change my gas and electricity meters. they are working fine and i don't want them changed. i'm bothered that this will be a way to introduce higher rates on the meter by stealth. they are saying they will send 'enforcers' to my home to make me change them. i thought possesion was nine tenths of the law on my side. is this a fiddle by british gas or should i give in now?

You don't own the meters and they can do what they like with them.

I am getting my electricity meter changed today. I think it is a time thing, mine is now on its second time round.

there is also the fact that the new ones are harder to tamper with, as in getting free services (not that i know much about this, honestly)

............ and another thing. The meters don't control the bills. They merely measure the amount of gas or electricity consumed. They are a calibrated device, the accuracy of which is assured. It is quite ridiculous to believe that a new meter will be less accurate.

Have no fear, the company hiding behind the name of British gas (Centrica) will still continue to rip you off by inflating their gas prices above all others in equal measure whether you have a new or old meter.

As for their boiler salesmen , they are nothing short of crooks.
I was recently approached by one of these shysters to replace a ten year old boiler without moving it from its original position.
They came in with a price of £3700 ....when I told him I could get a complete system installed for that money he magically dropped his price to £2000. No explanation as to why?
I wrote to the company that uses the name 'British gas' and strangely enough, they didn't reply. Thats German 'oops'... British gas for you............a joke behind a cloak.

P.s I have since replaced the boiler for a brand new all singing and dancing condenser exactly where the old one was,for £1200 all inclusive by a good Corgi registered plumber..... A fair, half a days work for a reasonable price!
I may not have answered your question, but I feel a lot better now i've had a good rant.
If any British gas salesmen are reading this , please sue me as a few bob at this time of year always comes in handy!
