I have a second hand oak kitchen table, the bottom half still needs stripping and the top half is bare now. We use this table every day, what is best to use on it to resore its luster but still be wipable for everday use ( kids are very messy eaters). I am not too keep on using varnish but maybe I just need convincing. I also have an old desk that would benifit with some tlc.

Briwax is excellent - it covers a multitude of sins & I use it on all our furniture. You can buy it in Wilkinsons for 4.75 a tin. It comes in different shades of brown & lasts for ages.
