just got back from states after 2 yrs of living there on partners visa and i couldnt work . do you think i could sign on and get 6 months income related allowance? i got this in 2006 when i left teaching through ill health. my mother in law is insisting that i can get something as it wasnt my fault i couldnt work abroad. i continued to pay my nat. insurance as partner was on a uk contract and i was only classed as a visitor and had to leave the country ever 6 months, co habitees werent recognised.

The bit about it 'not being your fault about not being able to work abroad' is irrelevant, and even if you had worked it wouldn't have changed the JSA position here in the Uk on your return.
What do you mean that 'you continued to pay your NI whilst abroad'? - do you mean voluntary employee's contributions? These credit you for various benefits but not for contribution-based JSA, as far as I know know. You would also have had to fund the Class 4 contributions.
