Is it time for Gordon Brown to step down
32 Answers
Ex whip Greg Pope states that any of the senior figures in the Labour Party would do better in this years general election. He also goes on to say that Gordon Brown is more unpopular than the Labour party, stating that they need a change of leader.
Do you think Brown should go and would it influence your vote in the general election?

Charisma?...certainly is I am afraid and that is media driven, Why do you think that the Labour Party voted Blair to lead them and not Brown?............charisma.
I don't dislike him, I just don't believe what he says any more and I certainly would question the statistics that he provides at the appropriate moment. Labour have done some good things in the last 10years.
Cameron?...no obvious policies, never met the guy so again will rely on the media as will 50 million other people.
Both paties are basically the same in policies, but the bottom line is that the electorate have had enough of New Labour.
Lib Dem.......nice guys but will come in 3rd again.
Will be a close run election with my money going on a "hung parliament"

There isn't anything wrong with Gordon Brown - he is thoroughly decent bloke who was brilliant at his job at the Treasury. He is a good manager, but not a charismatic leader. To be PM, one needs leadership qualities which I don't believe Gordon has.
His Party however, have just presided over a period of almighty mismanagement of the country dated back to about 2001 when financial prudence went out of the window and the country started an uncontrolled spending spree. Also, like it not not, he brought in the FSA as the overseer of the banking sector (to replace the Bank of England who had the job before) and this has not worked well.
For those 2 reasons alone, his Party does not warrant maintaining the job of running the country.

Fair comments Sqad and Buildersmate. The reason I asked was that I've asked a lot of people, and most cannot come up with anything other than "Well, he's ruined the country hasn't he" or "He started the credit crunch didn't he" but have no idea beyond the latest headline or sound bite what they are talking about. So long as people are prepared to think for themselves and not be led by the nose by a biased press then democracy has a chance, otherwise we get the government we deserve.
