computer crashes

hi my computer screen freezes it has lines or diagonal distortion you cant make anything out and cannot access anything you cannot even turn the computer off properly i have scanned my computer and no viruses are been picked up this happened 6 weeks ago on my main pc and in the end it died alltogether it has now happened on my laptop has anyone got any ideas thanks
