I've just bought some hanging baskets and have no idea what to put in them - I've no knowledge of gardening at all! I want something that can survive a fair bit of sun, isn't too hard to take care of, will trail nicely, and add a bit of colour (even if it's just green!) Any suggestions?

There are loads of candidates for hanging baskets. The most important thing is to ensure that you add water retaining gel crystals to the compost to give the plants more chance of surviving a hot day, and to remember to water the baskets at least once, and probably twice a day (morning and evening, while the sun is not strong).

Adding to Ursula's interesting post, if you click on any of the following images, they will give you some more ideas - have fun:

Nasturtiums are unusual but make a great display, the flowers are orange in colour and will spread and hang at a great speed!  (I think you can even eat the flowers ... )  Whatever you buy, as said before,  in this weather they need Lots of Water .. twice a day, and if you are going on holiday, don't rely on anyone to water them, so try putting them in full shade in plastic bowls etc. with water, until you get back..  And some plants like Busy Lizzies like semi shade, so no full sun.  I am sure the garden centre will advise you , but don't go at the weekend if you need assistance!
