53 plate Renault Laguna screen heater problem

I need some advise on what I suspect is going to be a very expensive problem. My car's heating system has stopped working. The electronic side appears to be working as it should, although in fairness it's only showing what should be happening, rather than what is actually going on. It sounds as if the fan isn't kicking in but I don't know if this is the problem. The only way I've found to keep the windscreen clear in these freezing temperatures is by opening the sunroof and driving with it on 'vent'. Not ideal. Any help greatfuly appreciated.
