mot fail?

just heard about some bloke who had is car mot'd yesterday and it failed because the water in the window water bottle was frozen!!!! pathetic or what

so can someone tell me, if he failed the car because of this and the car owner defrosted it took it back to the garage would the mechanic do a complete test again, just in case something else had happened to it inbetween times???

no a retest for such an item is free. there are other items that also qualify.

actually i should correct that. if you leave it in the garage then it can be retested for free.
if you take it away, then it needss to be retested for a fee.

for such a "pathetic" issue, i presume you would leave itin the garage..... ?

i didnt mean being charged i meant doing the actual test again,, after all if your cars fails for some reason and then you have to have it repaired, should a complete test be done again?

It's usually free whetever. This will be. Nothing else wrong so the guy just said I will need to show it working and he will issue a pass without it actually having a "test" test or being booked in. Just inconvenient that I have to go back for it.

i don't think i would boil a kettle either unless it was to have a coffee and wait for it to thaw ,i am not sure putting boiling water in the bottle is going to solve that particular problem probably make new ones
1:-bottle cracking
2:-pipes for screen wash being frozen hot water =split pipes
3:- and if you avoid all that and spray it on the windscreen if it is still warm what's going to happen to your frozen windscreen ??

if it fails for a wondow washer, it is left in the garage and corrected, then this will be the ony thing they retest.
if you drive it out of the garage, then you will have to have it restested completley. but then if you do drive it out the garage, it will have no valid mot and your insurance may be void.

the MOT set up in Northern Ireland is totally different to the mainland, here there are official government run testing centres,garages are not allowed to carry out the testing.
If a car fails, a retest fee of £18-50 is charged.However the retest relates only to the original fault, not a complete retest.

Let me give you a scenario...the MOT tester says "don't worry Fred, the wind screen washer isn't working, bit never mind, when the thaw comes it will be fine, here is your MOT certificate"
Fred then drives home, windscreen dirty, has difficulty in seeing through it, knocks down and kills a child. Inquest shows that the windscreen was in such a dirty state that the driver couldn't see through it after having been given an MOT certificate 30 mind before.

Who do you think would be criticised and have his MOT testing licence removed?

no one should be on the roads although if they weren't the roads would still be thick with snow and we would have to wait a very long time to get back out there has anybody tried their washers today did any of them work?

mine work, i put winter washer in the bottle and have topped it up for the last 3 weeks.

i drive a lot and cannot afford the risk of not seeing the road.

i was in an rac truck 2 weeks before christmas that was just when we were having the above minus temperatures
his were frozen and this was the middle of the day
