now dont get me wrong i agree pensioners, disabled people and people who GENUINELY need it need help to keep warm but to give it to those idle b***ards who dont want to work gets on my nerves,i heard 1 woman on the radio say that she had recieved hers and had spent it on cakes and chocolate.what about those people who work and cannot afford to heat their houses because they dont recieve allowances ie rent paid pay no council tax etc etc it makes my blood boil.....rant over.....

Well I haven't got mine yet but should do this week after the temperatures we've had recently and mine will go straight towards the heating bill. I'm disabled, not a pensioner, and £25 doesn't make that much difference though, but every little helps.

hi jan,it just made my blood boil when i heard that woman on the radio say she spent hers on cakes and chocolate....them sort of people are everything that is wrong with our society,,,,
Me too, but my bill last year was £776. I've spent this winter not putting the heating on unless completely necessary and staying in bed. Much cheaper.
stokemaveric - unfortunately this cold weather payment is also means tested. Therefore pensioners do not get it as a right. Only payable to people on qualifying benefits.
Hello there neighbour,
This:~
http://www.direct.gov...etirement/DG_10018668
is the Governments own webpage about the Cold Weather Payments.
Mine went into my bank last week, but as you will appreciate the system may be "snowed under" (sorry about the pun.)
As you will see it is not necessarily a "one off" payment, but can be as often as once a week, depending on the temperatures.
i am also disabled and cant move about a lot so i do feel the cold, but that money means i can burn my central heating longer than usual
It is not means tested and all pensioners get it, including the Duke of Edinburgh!
jan - thanks for the info. Can you give me a link regarding pensioners.

I know the Winter Fuel Allowance is paid to everyone over the age of 60 - but not aware they also get the Cold Weather Payment.

you are right sir, prise but people on income support get it dont they?...those that dont work in other words now i dont think all people who claim this benefit are idle but there are a lot who are,my point is why should they get govt help to keep warm when genuine people who work struggle to keep warm because they pay their way in life?? i hope you get your payment soon jan....

Not all those on income support get it. Only if you get Disability Living Allowance.
