Whilst walking to work

I noticed how the snow has changed society for the better. I either walk or cycle to work as its only a tad over 3 miles away.

There were lots more people finding there way to work on foot and also groups of people stood around in key areas such as lay-bys, petrol stations etc waiting for lifts. I also notices plenty of 4x4 vehicles full of people whereas theres usually just one to car.

Surely this is not only a good thing but an acheviable thing if push comes to shove. If the government is serious about climate change then surely it should encourage employers to maybe set 1 or 2 days a week where walking and vehicle sharing is compulsory.

Of course there would be spanners in the work such as the designated driver phoning up sick etc. but in its basic form its a workable idea.

All I have seen is people moaning about an inch of snow and schools closing. It seems to have shown people in their true colours from my experience.
all i have noticed is that people are driving at 10 miles an hour in the fast lane when the slow lane is empty and the road has no snow or ice.

i reckon its just an excuse to turn up late for work.
only circumstances can change people's attitudes. Remember the fuel crisis, car sharing was popular etc. Now we are back to 3 empty seats going every where, except for a few days when the weather forces a different approach. You can't legislate directly for this.
The snow has not changed me, I'm still society; well... a little thirstier society in this cold weather. :-)
Our neighbour (in our very rural village) works 12 miles away.
He works very unsocial shifts.
I would be grateful if you could tell me how he can get to work(even in good weather)except by car.
Nobody from his company (even if he worked social hours) lives anywhere near,so car share is out of the question.
Oh,and by the way we have no bus service less than 3 miles away.
Or maybe you think he should walk 12 miles each way to work.
This is the problem we country dwellers have, people (and politicians) in towns have no comprehension of how we live.
I agree, I watched my neighbours all pitch together today and dig all the cars out of the snow. It seems to have brought a spirit of community and goodwill.

Mr V; this is how your neighbour can get to work - by car. I'm aware that it isnt possible for all to car share or walk but seeing just how many can makes you wonder why they dont more often.
Hi Booldawg!
I've been out for a nice hours walk in the snow tonight burning off some calories! Now home & looking forward to my tea.
Car sharing/ walking to work, it's a nice thought isn't it, but it does'nt allow for peoples reliability! I like the idea though! I think it would brake some barriers down & of course be better for the enviroment, but is it feasible? I'm not sure? I'd like to think it was! x
