My mom is running Windows XP on a dial up, she got a 2nd gen. shuffle for Christmas, and itunes won't transfer music to her ipod. I know it's not the shuffle b/c it works on my pc at work. I've uninstalled and reinstalled itunes 4 times, along with using different USB ports and tried to restore the shuffle to it's orignial defaults. I beleive the problem to be somewhere in the pc, it's the only pc my mom has access to and i need it to work. The rest of itunes works, it's just the actual transfering of the music files that it won't do. Does anyone have any suggestions. BTW I have talked to Apple 4 times and all I got was the error codes (50 and 1418) mean reinstall itunes (which doesn't help) and since it's not a apple pc they won't do anything else....though they did send her a new shuffle just in case but it does the same thing.

With the iPod plugged in, does it show in iTunes?

If so, click help->ipod diagnosis. What does it say, and how many lights are lit up?

The ipod is reconized in itunes. I can pick a song and drag it over the the ipod and it won't transfer (error 50 which apple says means to reintall itunes)doesn't matter the song they all do it (from itunes bought songs to old mp3s). The Diagnosis that you told me to do shows all 4 lights/buttons green. Service status, helper status, usb status and connection status.
Have you tried completely removing iTunes, as well as quicktime, from the add/remove list? Try removing them both, then restarting, then re-downloading and installing iTunes again.

Also try turning off everything else you can, including antivirus software, temporarily.

I've done everything!!! It seems as i've read the other forums that alot of people using windows xp sp2 are having these problems and that itunes and xp don't play well. Unless anyone else has found a solutions the shuffle will be returned for another brand of MP3 player.

Here is a link to a solutions that has helped some....and further frustrated others.
Try plugging the iPod in, restarting your computer (with it still in), and then once everything's settled after restarting, open iTunes. Does it show and work now?

(I initially had this problem or similar when iTunes7 first came out a few months ago, on my old computer, and this resolved it.)
Hi, it is really easy to do that.
What you need is a special software named Cucusoft iPhone/iTouch/iPod to Computer Transfer,
with it,you transfer iPod photo, Videos, songs, podcasts and playlist to computer/iTunes easily.
just find more here:
