Just seen telly thing about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Many soldiers are suffering from this.

Understandably.

Being sent to War must be v traumatic.

Soldiers should only sign up on the strict understanding that they will not be sent to places where there is fighting, or conflict.

was this the result of some extensive publicly funded research ?

"being shot at in armed conflict or war can induce stress"
If you've been on a train full of scottish and geordie soldiers (as I luckily have) the last thing on their minds is stress.......

I think Army Recruiting Offices (do they still have them) should have a form.

When you sign up to be in the Army, you should have a choice ...

Tick the relevant box.

[ ] Combat ... WARNING: risk of post traumatic stress disorder

[ ] No combat

At least there would be a choice.
I can't decide if you are taking the rise out of soldiers, or out of the PTSD industry.........

I don't really get the gist of this thread, the reality has long been that upon leaving the service many men struggle to cope.
This is (and always has been) many of the alcoholics and homeless men you see are ex-army, for many the greatest trauma is leaving.
