for other uses (but not wrapping birds), this stuff is good:

Please, please do not use any form of plastic whether cling film or plastic tubs for re-heating food or drinks. When plastic is heated it gives off 'dioxins' which are a cancer causing agent. Someone I know has recently died (37yrs) from stomach cancer, he lived off microwave meals. The hospital said it was probably due to re-heating plastics over a long period.
For cooking chickens in the oven, rub a little butter on the skin, wrap in tin foil and place inside a roasting tin. Do not roast open as this will dry out the meat. If you boil chicken you will loose all the flavour of the chicken in the water, hence the meat will taste bland.

flamin' nora - how on earth have we got onto cancer and how to roast a bloomin' chicken?
I am so sorry to hear about your friend dooglebrit - very very sad, and something for us to think about I'm sure.
I only asked the original question because I had frozen some lasagne and forgotten to take it out of the freezer and needed to get it in the oven. The clingfilm had sort of gone into the lasagne on the bottom and I couldn't get it off and didn't want to microwave it.
I have cooked many many chickens in my time - in all kinds of ways and all with great success! I have stuffed chicken breasts with pine nuts, goats cheese and spinach, rolled into clingfilm and gently poached - so as to create a "ballotine" if you will.
Many thanks for the heads up. Fortunately, I wouldn't dream of eating a ready meal!
