Unfortunately the Inspiron 6000 does not have an internal microphone.The above link is a link to the Owner's Manual stating this (in the manual it will show that while you have internal speakers there is not an internal microphone)

In order to get the system to work with Skype you will need to plug in an external microphone. The laptop microphones( http://www.uxsight.co...ptop-microphones.html ) jack for this system is located on the Right Side of the computer. The "Microphone Icon" is to adjust settings for an external microphone.

As far as the external microphone is concerned, I can't fault 'Logilink' equipment for quality and price! I have a Logilink HS0011 headset with microphone and it is so comfortable and offers great sound quality :)
