tax on vehicles

why do we have to pat tax for poor roads that ruin our cars anyway, and whats the deal with the engine size category of tax

I'd like to think that all the road tax paid went on the upkeep of highways but i'm far to cynical to believe that. Does anyone know the difference between tax collected and money spent on the upkeep? i can see the point of engine size though.

but engine size normally means you pay more at the pumps to run the f****** thing,
somebody has to pay for all the migrants on benefit. :>]

that should be the case, my car is over 600 tax a year, you would think that should be enough, instead of havin to replace my shocks and have my wheels fixed from potholes and bumps

Hi Top Driver, you refer to replacing your shocks! I had to do this because of a Railway crossing close to where I live, after a few Emails, phone calls to Network rail I received a cheque for my Broken front spring + the labour. the crossing is still in a bad way so If it happens again I have told them that I will claim again. if you have a case, take photos from every angle, time,date,depth of the hole etc, scan your evidence then send them to the Highways Dept. If we all put in claims they would soon sort out the bloody roads,

Vehicle tax has no link to expenditure on the roads - just as National Insurance doesn't directly fund the NHS. It,s all one almighty big pot of money.
