At primary school in the mid-sixties, I remember reading a book about Elephants in Siam (?) and it included a chapter/passage where the King of Siam was given a white elephant as a gift. It also introduced me to the notion of an 'elephant's graveyard' as this was discovered in the book with its hoards of ivory. Perhaps my memory plays tricks and it wasn't set in Siam, it all sounds a bit Kiplingesque as well. Can anyone help me with the probable title of this book??

the White Elephant story does come from Siam, I think, but the elephants graveyard story is usually African (I think it appears in the firstTarzan film). You sure they were both in the same book?

Most definitely the same book. It was towards the end of my primary school time and the headmaster took us for one lesson a week to read. One book was Moonfleet (still a favourite!), Tom Sawyer another and the third was this tale of elephants etc.
