Should the UK follow both France and Germany's lead in issuing a warning against Microsoft's Internet Explorer?

Nope. It's all hype put about by a Firefox spokesman.
MS have said there is a very very small likelihood of security problems with IE6 only.
There's nothing intrinsicly wrong with IE.

It just so happened to be picked to engineer this particular exploit.

We see loads of Firefox and Safari vulnerabilities all the time
Best to throw your PC in the bin and get a Mac.
It just highlights the importance of keeping all Programmes slap bang up to date especially Windows Up-dates.

well it was in todays newspapers..........
IE is an awful browser, no matter which version (although IE6 was the worst). It doesn't stick to any of the industry standard and people are forever having to write workarounds to make applications work/display correctly...
I do get tired of those who trot out trite extremely dated statements about Microsoft products based on little more than their own biased, underinformed opinion or something they heard from antiMicrosoft zealots.

Yes in the past Microsoft has included features in their browser not yet implemented in standards. This is the nature of the browser design process. Different developers added different features. Some were eventually adopted by all.

However many of the problems encountered in web development are because the other browsers had not yet included the features rather than IE lacking the ability to render a standard based page. Some designers will use these non-standard features and only test with IE causing their pages to not work properly with other browsers. It is this non-compliance of the page design that causes issues.

IE8 is an excellent browser and largely compliant with the current standards which have implemented many the IE developed features. Firefox has not always met standards either.
If you want your PC or Mac to be completely safe - stay disconnected = from anything.

There will always be risks, but they are acceptable risks if you just abide by some basic rules and apply some common sense. Go looking at porn and, welll you will pay for it !
beso - I do hope that you are not talking about me when you when you write "I do get tired of those who trot out trite extremely dated statements about Microsoft products based on little more than their own biased, underinformed opinion or something they heard from antiMicrosoft zealots."?

Features and Standards are completely different. IE browsers DO NOT conform to the < a href-"http://www.w3schools.com/">W3 Schools web standards. Firefox, et al, however do. Try validating the standards from the W3 site.
