What stops them from finding their own job and keeping all the profits?
You need a better advantage for them to be tempted to being asscociated with yourself than simply offering to find work for them.
If you really want to do it that way, You need to make a brand and then workers will want to be associated with your brand, because your brand guarantees quality and reliability.
So the answer to your question is no, not really. Not in the competitive world right now and especially in the recession. The Handy men who are unemployed right now can go and find the job themselves and keep all of the profits.
It's soo complicated though. How will you know the hand men are responsible and they won't rip of the customers and not give all the money to you?
