Grinding Noise
9 Answers
Hi everyone,
I have a Vauxhall Corsa 98 plate, and when I brake, there seems to be quite a loud ''grinding'' noise coming from the back brakes, kind of like a ''grinding/thunder'' noise. But its only when I brake.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what this might be?
Regards Pete

The worst scenario is that the spring may have broken which holds the shoes in, and this would cause the brakes to grind, but I would assume that it would bemore of a jerk on the brakes when they are applied. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the sooner that the brake shoes are replaced the better and safer for you. John
Have you been HANDBRAKE turning? 98 I would not think that the rear brake needs replacing on this year, has the car been stood up? if the car has & previously been used in the snow/ ice weather, the lining will be rusty and grating on the drum, try running the car with the handbrake up 2 >> 3 clicks to clear the rust, How many Clicks does the handbrake pull up? If it 1 >2 >3 that should tell you if the linings are down.
