Never ever ignore a warning light. It may be nothing but get it checked.

Got the same with a Rover 200. It's a loose connection (connector block) under the drivers seat. The SRS warning light is on all the time. I'll get round to it one day!

I had a Citroen Berlingo van, wire under passenger seat set off the airbag warning light, so not a real fault.

first answers correct but it is usually one of the connectors under the front seats, so not a real fault? all it means is your wife in the passenger seat could die but you won't.

Technicaly your car is illegal if the warning light is on and it will fail an MOT.

my airbag warning light was on when I got the car. I had it checked and it was an electrical fault.. best to get it checked though..

Illegal? What you on about?! It just means it will not pass an MOT test.
The cable there is for pretensioner firing .. and possibly side air bag where fitted. The pretensioner tightens up seatbelt anchor, that's it. The air bag will still fire. Manufacturers are fussy and require a whole new loom (Ford ones about 300-400 quid) but they may be safely repaired with soldering/heatshrink if necessary. Pull SRS fuse first with ignition off.
