How do you cope with being a parent?
25 Answers
I have a 2 and a half year old boy, work full time and am estranged from my husband. Everything is a battle. A lot of the time I feel I cant cope and am often on the verge of tears, sometimes I feel I am going to explode. I have turned into one of them shouty mums that I hate. Before I got pregnant I was a very patient person and quite laid back and positive and now I just hate the way I am. I want to be a good and happy mum to my little boy and I feel so guilty about being so short tempered with him all the time.
I'm sure I will get lots of nasty comments here but there must be lots of parents out there that feel the same, how do you cope?

Being a single mum is hard, and when you work and your child is so young, it seems like a totally thankless task. I've been there and I remember how hard and how lonely it was. But don't get too down about it, it gets easier, and as your child gets older it gets more rewarding. My daughter is 13 now and we couldn't have a closer relationship . I think back and I remember...

With regards to him getting up through the night, when my daughter was that age she didn't have her own room and slept in my bed - something she continued to do till she was 10! I know it is frowned upon, but it never caused us any problems and we both got a good night's sleep. When I started a new relationship I explained there wasn't room in the bed for 3 and she went to her own room from then on with no argument. By that time it was only occassionally that she would come through anyway, but if it would help your situation I don't see any harm in it.

Hi karenmac, I was letting him sleep in my bed at first, but he was keeping me awake all night tossing and turning, he actually bust my lip a couple of times, lol. Then my childminder said her son slept in her bed until about 10 too, so I thought i cant deal with that and thats when I started putting him back. It was about 3 months sleeping in my bed and now its been about 3 months putting him back. I did buy a training clock whihc did work for about a week and a half. Think I am going to try the reward chart thing.
Eddie, am not in a union, but I did look into the tax credits and I still think I will be worse off financially. I do get tax credits at the moment anyway.
Thanks x
