Imagination

I'm looking for a song by a girl or it could be a band with a female lead singer. The only lyrics i know is in the build up to the chorus (the bridge) she says something about the american dream. Then in the actual chorus she sings "imagination" and then, possibly drums and guitar, give two "thumps" and it goes quiet. Then she says imagination again and this happens for a second time. I have a feeling i could be by a band similar to Garbage. Any help much appreciated.

Belouis Some had a hit with Imagination in around 1986. Although he is a chap there was a lot of female backing singing around the chorus bit:

Imagination - is all I want from you-ou�

 I think this may be the song but you may have heard a cover version.

It was covered by Harry (who is female, despite the name) in 2000. This may well be the version you heard.
