Which version came first?

Have been having an on-going convo about which version came first of the apprentice... the english one or the american one? i reckong its the english but my mate thinks the american... ????

According to IMDB, US version started in 2004, UK version 2005

but the US version wasn't first shown here until after the UK version

The first series of the US original was aired on BBC2 from October 2004.
The first UK series did not air until February 2005.

It appears that creator Mark Burnett insisted on the US version of the show being aired before any licensed local versions.

I also checked IMDb and noticed the date discrepency. My own recall of the earlier broadcast of the US version prompted me to delve further...
