Hi

I was involved in an accident 3 weeks ago, a guy pulled out of the junction and hit the back rear door and wing. After being messed about for 3 weeks I was finally told today that my car is a write off - 2500 worth of repairs.

I have been reading on the net and frankly I am very worried my insurance are now going to offer me a small amount for the car. The guy has accepted full responsibillity but I am going through my insurance with the view to claim back from his as thrid party. I am fully comp and have no claims protection.

Three questions really, hope you can help:

Will i be offered a low settlement for the car or will the fact that the other insurer is accepting full responsibillity work in my favour?

Will I lose my no claims bonus?

I have to pay the excess of 350, when should I expect to recieve this back from the thrid party insurance?

Everything depends on your insurance company. Last year a guy reversed into my parked car. He accepted the blame and it didn't affect my no claims and I didn't have to pay the excess.

As regards your car don't accept the first offer. Do some research and see what the going rate is for your model of car similar .year mileage condition etc and try get them closer to this value. You have to Haggle !!

Firstly - ignore claim_solution reply!

Your Insurers will pay you the current market value of the car. As previously advised, make sure you know what this value should be by doing some research yourself.

Your Insurers will deduct the excess from your settlement but you should be able to recover this from the third party's Insurers.

If you make a full recovery of your uninsured losses (policy excess, expenses etc) from the other insurers then this claim will not affect your bonus. Make sure that your own insurers pursue a recovery of their outlay (they sometimes neglect to do this).

Is your insurance through a Broker? If so they will probably do this for you or perhaps you have paid for additional Motor Legal Expenses cover. If you have then this is exactly what they are there for.

Thanks for all the response's guys.

I have researched the cost of cars like mine - similar mileage, age, condition etc I persume market value refers to what price they are selling at and not what price a trader would offer???

My insurance is not through a broker, I was insured direct through them.

My car has been deemed uneconomical to repair so think it would not be worth having it back and doing the repairs, there is damage underneath and to the steering.

As it happens I have been in contact with a solicitor this week regarding my personal injuries so fingesr crossed on that one - just wish this would come through now and I could put it towards the cost of a new car.
