Microsoft updates

The last twice, following Microsoft updates my computer refuses to reboot. I am running Windows7 (installed over Vista) in a dual boot with XP.
The computer powers up and runs fro exactly 6 seconds then switches off!
I have to turn off the main switch and leave the computer for at least an hour and it will then restart although it reverts to its build date of 2006.
Any help on how to oveercome this problem would be greatly appreciated. I guess ti's something to do with the master boot record but then, what do I know. B.

If it was me, I would look at the install update text files on Windows root to see if thay are possible to uninstall via add/remove back to the date before probs.
I would also try to disable the dual boot and try just booting to 7 to see what happens.
How about a clean boot too .. or one with a start-up disk running?

WINDOWS 7 - will at some point prove to be a total disaster. Choose a Operating System such as Ubuntu. I have 1 laptop running on Vista, I don't like it alot, only feature I do like is, instead of searching through all your programs on start menu, there is a fast option to type program name in. Apart from that, as far as the current selection of Window's O/S, XP is most prob's the favourable choice of a large number of repair PC's, as there are little chances of problems occuring, compared to Vista's list of faults. What is YOUR view on my personal choice of OS and decide for yourself on what OS would be most suitable for you

Thanks guys, it would seem the simplistic answer is to format and re-install 7 on its own. I can leave XP on the secon disk and move all my stuff onto there before the format. Many thanks. B.

I'm unfamiliar with Wiindows 7, but in previous versions you can find the ability to roll back to an earlier time in Start/programs/accessories/system tools/system restore.
