I didn't see it, but it got panned in the Guardian.

It mentioned a line where someone says ...

"Have you ever been to the National?"

(meaning Theatre, or Gallery, or something)

And is there any parallel universe in which the supposedly "funny" line that followed was not painfully predictable ...

"No, but I went to the Derby once"

Were the gags written by a bunch of kids in some playground?

I mean ... purleeeez!

Even your pals in the pub wouldn't be that corny without feeling a bit embarrassed.

So at what point did a group of professional scriptwriters sit round a table, and one of them says ...

"Hey, I've thought of this great Rossini gag ... "

... and they all thought that it sounded funny?

JJ the gags were true to the time - the drama wasn't written to contain new jokes. I think The Guardian have totally missed the point. You are too young to have understood it!! ;o)

Im too young to understand it too (70s baby) but i love OFAH and i really enjoyed rock and chips, my favourite bit was when joan named the baby and all across peckham you could hear everyone saying RODNEY!!!!! And the bit at the end across the balcony bought tears to my eyes........lovely!!
