Your brake sqeak could be a couple of things, such as rust oin the rear drums, shiny shoes through gentle braking or worn brake shoes. Whenever I buy a used car I always take it to Kwik Fit for a free brake check regardless of MOT date. I advise you to do the same - it could save you money, or your life !
Congratulations on having bought a really nice car! (Mine's the same but on a 96/N plate!)
Yes there's only one reverse light, the other 'reverse' light, is a fog light (pull the lights dial out when sidelights/mainbeam is on)
Not too sure about the handbreak, mine's not brilliant and could do with adjusting (just haven't got round to it), so I always leave it in gear.
As for the breaking, try taking the wheels off and the drums if you can and cleaning them out with a wire brush.
