Hi, many years ago when I was nowt but a lad, we put on a performance at school about Jonah, anyway there were about 6 or 7 songs in total, I would love to have the words for these songs, any help would be appreciated.

It was a bit of a Rock'n'roll thing!

regards

Would it by any chance have been the "Jonah Man Jazz"? We did it too along with Joseph and his ATDC, and Swinging Samson... You can by the sheet music at the following

Many thanks

Yeah, Jonah Man Jazz....

Ninevah City was a city of sin
The .......................... made a terrible din
Beat groups playin' Rock and Roll
And the Lord he said, 'Well, bless-ah mah soul...'

It was '. . .the jazzin' & jivin' made a terrible din . . .'

Gosh - there I was thinkin we must be the only school that sang this.

Here's some of the songs - I cant remember all of them:

------

Ninevah city was a city of sin
The jazzing and jiving made a terrible din
People playing the roll'n roll
And the Lord he said well, bless'a my soul

The people wouldnt listen, danced night and day
No time to work, No time to play
They went on dancing, by day and night
And the Lord he said well, this aint right

The Lord he pondered a subtle plan,
He looked around for a righteous man,
Saw Jonah sitting 'neath pineapple (?) tree
And the Lord he said, thats the man for me.

A righteous man, that i can trust
To raise this city from out the dust
The man thats sitting 'neath the pineapple (?) tree
Im certain, sure, sure, sure, he's the man for me.

------

Jonah, Jonah, listen to me Jonah
listen while i tell you of a plan i have in mind,
A city, dancing, dancing and romancing
All to obviously to vert (?) you must be blind.
Take my warning, early in the morning
As early as you feel desired

Shout to the people, Shout from every steeple
Tell them the churches bells have chimed
Tell them to stop their laughter,
Or in the great Here-After
Whats to come is all too sure

For i will smight them, and infinite them
If they will not turn to me once moooooooore

------

We had a wonderful party
And Jonah had a whale of a time
But even though have repented
Our dancing days aint done

Jonahs amazing adventure
Inside that mighty fish
Brought us to our salvation
Brought us our dearest wish

So, sing out the gospel music
Sing out the gospel shout
Sing out the new song
The me and the you song
Tell the whole world,
I know a few ofthe other songs from Jonah Man Jazz.

Starts.

I need a boat man
That will carry me away
and how I hope man
shes sailing today
you can see I got no suitcase
Im travelling light
aint got no reason
for staying the night
you don't even have to tell me
where we're sailing to
just as long as we are sailing
right into the blue so help me
take me sailing into the deep blue sea with you
