Iphone app

I bought an app from the appstore on my iphone about an hour ago and it was takin ages to download, it got half way and then it stopped and didn't do anything for at least half hour, i connected my phone to my pc and opened up itunes and it showed as 'loading' on the app section of my phone on itunes but it had not copied into my list of apps on my backup files on itunes on my pc because it had not yet finished. when the sync had finished, i went to check the app on my phone to see if i had got any further and its gone! I have tried checking the purchased section on my itunes but the only thing showing up on there is one song which i bought from itunes a while back, no apps at all. I still want to download the app but dont want to have to pay for it again as it is £2.99, how do i do this plz.
Any help appreciated.
