crb check working for nhs
4 Answers
Hi Please can someone give me some advice
When I was younger I was arrested for possession of a class a drug a very small amount and I accepted a caution. I have just been offered a job working for the NHS in schools with children so I need a CRB check, I am so worried that the caution will show up it was about 5 maybe 6 years ago?? Also wondering if I explain that I was young and only tried drugs many years ago and would except drugs test at any time, will this stop me from getting a job?? I think its so unfair that a mistake you make years ago can go against you, I have worked for the NHS for 3 years already but never needed a CRB and it has never stopped me doing my job. I have never been in trouble for anything else. Please can someone help im losing sleep worrying about this
Thanks so much

You would be better off telling the employer and finding out from them. A "bad" crb doesn't in law prevent you from getting a job BUT it's risk management - the employer will consider if there is any risk to them from giving someone with a drugs history a job
This isn't what you want to hear, but unless by some miracle you are the only person going for this job, you have next to no chance of getting it. As has been stated, an enhanced CRB will be carried out, and chances are that the other candidates will have nothing. Therefore, I'm afraid, your application will get no further...
I agree with your point about rehabilitation, but people are people...

i disagree totally with the above (obviously) Your employers could not have "vetted" you (to the standard of an enhanced CRB disclosure) without your knowledge. It doesn't matter hwether the p[olice thought you were a risk to children or not, what matters is if your employer thinks you are.
Imagine a scenario where drugs are found in the scool for example and the papers get hold of it, do some investigating and find the NHS employed you, who has a previous caution for drug possession - that is what i mean about "risk".
